CONCRETE INJECTION

Primarily used for the waterproofing of cracks, Surface sealing of leaking concrete structures & waterproofing of construction joints. Concrete crack injection should not be used to fill cracks in conctrete that are caused by concrete spalling, which is caused by the corrosion of steel reinforcement within the concrete, as this would only repair the visible symptoms of concrete spalling without actually fixing the root cause of the problem which would persist and result in further structural damage.

Concrete injection involves the injection of polymer resins into the crack which fill the crack and bond with the concrete. Once set the resin forms a waterproof barrier that prevents further ingress of water and moisture into and through the crack. Different types of polymers, namely epoxies, acrylics, polyesters and polyurethanes, are used to inject into the concrete crack depending on the type of crack and differing circumstances as each polymer has different properties.

Both high pressure and low pressure injection techniques can be used in concrete crack injection depending on the type and size of the crack to be filled. The process for each method differs but both require the cleaning of the surface to remove any loose friable material and contaminants and the cleaning of the crack itself by means of high pressure air. Resin inlet ports are then inserted into the crack or angled holes drilled to intersect the crack. The polymer is then injected into the crack via the inlet ports or drilled holes, under high pressure by a specialised pump or low pressure by handheld caulking gun, depending on the repair method being used.

Concrete crack repair by resin injection is a skilled process and should only be undertaken by specialists such as Spalling Worx.
