Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer is an extremely strong and light fiber-reinforced plastic which contains carbon fibers that are commonly used wherever high strength-to-weight ratio and stiffness or rigidity are required. it is manufactured from carbon filament which is woven into into sheets which are layered at angles relative to each other, which when combined with a resin bond to form an extremely strong material. It commonly used in the aerospace, automotive and sports equipment industries but has also seen wide use in the construction and civil engineering fields.
CFRP wrap can be used as part of the structural design of new structures or retrofitted to existing concrete structures to provide additional strength or to repair damaged structural concrete. Carbon Fibre concrete reinforcement can be used to strengthen concrete structural elements such as columns, beams, slabs and walls.
The application process entails surface preparation followed by the application of a surface primer. If required a leveling adhesive is applied to repair and level any substrate surface defects so that uniform bonding of the carbon fibre to the substrate surface can be achieved. The carbon fibre adhesive is then applied to the surface and the CFRP wrap is applied and bonded to the surface by the adhesive. CFRP adhesive is then applied to the wrap in situ so that the wrap is impregnated with the adhesive. A cure period is then reuired for the resins and wrap to fully bond to each other and the substrate surface.
